PET ORDINANCES
Douglas county has various requirements and ordinances pertaining to pets including-
- Household pets including, but not limited to, dogs and cats shall be permitted in all zone districts allowing for residential use. Kennels, boarding facilities, and commercial activities are not allowed.
- You are allowed to have four (4) adult dogs at one residence. An adult dog is defined as a dog that is 4 months of age or older.
- Incessant barking can disturb the peace and quiet of a neighborhood. In addition, it is a violation of Douglas County Resolution 019-029.
- Dogs must be on a leash when off the owner’s property except when walking in a designated off-leash area.
- Dog owners must pick up and properly dispose of their dog’s defecation both on and off the owner’s property.
- A dog owner must ensure their dog does not bite, injure, chase, threaten, bark, howl at or disturb anyone.
- Cats should be kept inside or at a minimum, should be confined to their owners’ property.
- State law requires every person owning or keeping a dog must purchase a county dog license when the dog is six months of age or grows its permanent canine teeth, which ever comes first, or within 30 days of becoming owner or keeper, or within 30 days of moving into the county.
- Animals must be kept under control for their own protection and to preserve the public’s health and safety. Dogs, found off the owner’s or keeper’s property are called “strays” and may be impounded. The owner or keeper may also be fined.

DOG PARKS
There are numerous off-leash parks located in Douglas County. These parks are operated by several different organizations within Douglas County. The closest to the area is at Bayou Gulch Regional Park.
